Body language expert Judi James noticed that Donald often held his wife’s hand during the inauguration, “taking it like some Regency gentleman, kissing her proffered cheek or even gazing at her as they danced together like a man in the throes of some romantic thrall.”
Regarding Melania’s outfit on Inauguration Day, James said it sent a message about the kind of first lady she’d be. “Her saucer-shaped hat and her fiercely-tailored coat twinned her as an equal to Trump and a woman who means business this time around. Beneath the brim her smile was regal and confident, while her eyes were kept hidden,” James stated. She also pointed out moments like when dealing with the Bidens after Trump’s speech, where Melania’s actions seemed to convey her feelings, showing what James called “power signals” that had increased.
