Silva and Gere met in 2014 at a hotel in Positano, Italy. They were also motivated to move to Spain for humanitarian reasons. As Silva said, “The only reason why both Richard and I are here in Madrid is to be part of the board of the NGO Hogar Sí. We want to help this country to end homelessness. Our goal is that, within five years, no one sleeps on the street.”
Last November, Gere appeared on “The Tonight Show” and expressed his excitement about the move, mentioning that his wife is Spanish and gave him about seven years there, and that their kids are bilingual and will flourish in Madrid. Gere also has a 24-year-old son, Homer, from a previous marriage to Carey Lowell, while Silva has an 11-year-old, Albert, from a prior marriage.
This month, Gere appeared at Spain’s Goya Awards, where he received an International Award. He expressed his gratitude for being in the “world of telling stories” and emphasized how it takes “thousands of people” to make a movie. He also shared his thoughts on the profound experience of watching a movie and experiencing cinema, expressing concerns about anything that takes away from that magic.

It appears that Richard Gere is adapting well to his Spanish lifestyle.
