Retired Educator’s Frank Words to Parents on System Spark Online Frenzy

“Children arrive at school wearing shoes that cost more than the teacher’s entire outfit, yet they lack something as simple as a pencil or paper. Who ends up providing these? Often, it’s the teachers, dipping into their own pockets.

“When you examine ‘failing’ schools, look closely at the parents and the students. Do parents attend parent nights? Do they maintain regular communication with teachers? Do they ensure their children are equipped with the necessary supplies? Do they see to it that their children complete their homework?

“Do they have reliable telephone numbers? Do the students take notes during class? Do they actually do their homework? Are the students attentive in class, or are they the ones causing disruptions?

“When you consider these factors, it becomes evident that it’s not the schools that are failing; it’s the parents. Teachers cannot perform both their own jobs and those of the parents. Until parents step up and fulfill their responsibilities, nothing will improve.”

Unsurprisingly, the letter caused a significant stir and undeniably presents some highly pertinent points that merit serious discussion.
