The worst moment came when, in front of all our guests, he loudly said, “You’re TOO OLD for me!” The room went silent, and I felt extremely embarrassed. Just as I was trying to deal with the pain of his words, my best friend, Emily, came to my defense.
Emily’s Defensive Stand
Emily, always loyal and straightforward, wasn’t going to let Mike’s cruelty pass. Without hesitation, she turned to him and said sarcastically, “Oh, too old for you, is she? Wasn’t it YOU who lagged behind her on your last hiking adventure? Who needed help with a simple plumbing fix? Who avoids intimacy, claiming you’re ‘too tired’ all the time?”
The guests were shocked, looking on in disbelief. She continued, “Look who’s got the nerve, Mike. You mock her, but you’re the one who’s been pulling her down with your endless complaints and insecurities. If anyone’s showing their age here, it’s you—your laziness and inability to appreciate the extraordinary woman by your side.”
