A California woman, Charlotte Russ from Fresno, had an unexpectedly costly trip to the beach when her kids picked up clams. She was slapped with an $88,000 ticket.
Russ told ABC affiliate KFSN-TV, “My kids, they thought they were collecting seashells, but they were actually collecting clams, 72 to be exact.”
Court filings obtained by PEOPLE showed that an officer issued the mother a two-count citation during their November 2023 oceanside outing. The citations were for fishing without a license and collecting undersized Pismo clams.
The hefty fine left Russ feeling sad and depressed, and it even ruined their trip. She was shocked when she saw that she’d have to pay $88,993.
