“I do, Gramps. I’ve been volunteering at a local shelter, trying to give back, to make amends in some way. I know it’s not enough, but it’s a start,” she said, tears streaming down her face.
Richard’s heart softened. “That’s a good start, Emily. A small but significant step in the right direction.”
She hugged him tightly. “Thank you, Gramps. I promise I’ll make it right.”
As Richard held her, he felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe this was the start of a new chapter for them, a chance to rebuild and strengthen their bond. But he still wondered if he should add Emily back to his will. Had she truly changed for the better? He wanted to believe her, yet he felt he needed to think it through carefully.
