As Richard left the office, he felt a mix of sadness and resolve. He hoped this would make Emily rethink her choices.
A few days later, Emily called. Her voice was shaky.
“Gramps, I heard from Mom that you… you REMOVED ME FROM YOUR WILL?” she said, her tone a mix of shock and hurt.
“I did, Emily. It wasn’t an easy decision, but you need to learn that you can’t just do whatever you want without considering the consequences,” Richard replied, trying to keep his voice steady.
“Gramps, you can’t be serious! Over a wedding? We just wanted something different!” she cried.
“It’s not just about the wedding, Emily. It’s about respect, honesty, and family. You didn’t even tell me you were eloping. You took the money I saved for your wedding and used it for a luxury vacation. Do you understand how that feels?” Richard asked, his voice breaking.
There was silence on the other end. Finally, Emily spoke. “I… I didn’t think about it like that. I’m sorry, Gramps. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
