“Emily, do you even realize what you’ve done?” Richard asked, his voice barely audible.
“Gramps, we had to do what felt right for us,” she replied, her tone defensive.
“I wanted to be there for you. To see you walk down the aisle, to share that moment with you,” Richard said, hoping to make her understand his hurt.
She sighed again. “I know, but Mark and I… we wanted something different. It’s not about you, Gramps. It’s about us.”
Her words stung, and Richard hung up, feeling lonelier than ever. He thought of Joanne, who would have known how to handle this situation.
Determined to make Emily understand the consequences of her actions, Richard made a tough decision. He met with his lawyer, Mr. Walker, a kind middle-aged man with a graying mustache.
“Mr. Anderson, are you sure about this?” Mr. Walker asked, looking at Richard over his glasses.
“Yes, I’m sure. She needs to learn that actions have consequences. I love her, but she can’t treat family like this,” Richard said, feeling the weight of his choice.
Mr. Walker nodded. “Alright then. We’ll remove her from the will.”
