In a candid revelation, Djimon Hounsou, the 60-year-old accomplished actor hailing from the West African nation of Benin and renowned for his roles in films like “Blood Diamond” and “Gladiator”, has peeled back the curtain on the often-overlooked hardships of being a person of color in Hollywood. During an appearance on a recent installment of CNN’s “African Voices Changemakers”, Hounsou delved into the nitty-gritty of his journey, exposing the harsh truth that, despite a career spanning over two decades and boasting two Oscar nominations and numerous blockbuster credits, he is still grappling with financial instability.
“I find myself in a continuous struggle to make ends meet,” he confessed. “Even with my extensive tenure in the filmmaking business, punctuated by significant achievements, I am far from being on solid financial ground. The reality is, I am woefully underpaid.”
