“Wayfarer has chosen to utilize the resources of its billionaire co-founder to issue media statements, file baseless lawsuits, and threaten further litigation in an attempt to confuse the public and make it difficult for them to realize that what they’re doing is actually retaliation against sexual harassment accusations,” the statement read.
Lively’s attorneys, representing the 37-year-old actress, added that Baldoni and his associates “are attempting to change the narrative by falsely claiming that she took over creative control and drove a wedge between the cast and Mr. Baldoni.” They emphasized, “The evidence will demonstrate that the cast and others had their own negative encounters with Mr. Baldoni and Wayfarer. Moreover, the evidence will also show that Sony asked Ms. Lively to supervise Sony’s version of the film, which they later selected for distribution and achieved great success.”
The statement concluded, “Their response to the sexual harassment allegations is to say that she wanted it and it’s her fault. Their excuse for why this happened to her is to focus on what she was wearing. In short, while the victim is concerned with the abuse, the abuser is fixated on the victim. Their strategy of attacking the woman is desperate. It doesn’t disprove the evidence in Ms. Lively’s complaint, and it will ultimately fail.”
