In the contemporary era, it has become a familiar occurrence for various aspects of life to face scrutiny regarding their pertinence and appropriateness. I am of the view that the increasing number of discussions on topics that previously received scant attention is a positive development.
The notion of gender roles is in a perpetual state of flux. Presently, we have made significant strides, though we still have a way to go, in creating an equal playing field for everyone in terms of opportunities and interpersonal treatment.
However, it was not so long ago that gender roles were much more rigidly defined. There were certain activities that women were simply not allowed to engage in, and similarly, men refrained from certain actions for fear of being ridiculed.
