Do You Know What That Little Button on Your Seat Belt Is For?

The small button on a seat belt, known as a stop or retainer button, plays a crucial role in convenience and safety. It keeps the latch plate—the metal piece that clicks into the buckle—from sliding too far down the strap when not in use, ensuring it’s easy to grab.

Most seat belts have two buttons: one near the latch plate to prevent it from sliding to the base and another higher up to stop it from moving toward the shoulder. Together, they keep the seat belt in the perfect position.

If these buttons wear out or break, they’re easy to replace with basic tools and can be found online or at auto parts stores.
